CPA Divisions
CPA has eight Specialty Divisions. CPA membership is required in order to join a CPA Division.

Division I - Clinical and Professional Practice
Division I represents clinical psychologists and independent practitioners. Efforts focus on ensuring parity for psychologists with other health professionals and expanding areas of service delivery. Division II - Education and Training
Division II works to identify and to act on issues affecting the graduate education, practicum, internship, and postdoctoral training of psychologists in California. To this aim, the Division (1) monitors proposed legislation and regulations affecting the education, training, and licensure of Psychologists in California and provides commentary to the Board of Psychology and other professional and governmental agencies as appropriate; (2) disseminates information and hosts conferences on issues relevant to education and training; and (3) provides leadership within the education and training community and represents that constituency’s interests and opinions within CPA and other organizations. The Division operates under the direction of a Board of Directors and works in a manner consistent with the Mission of the California Psychological Association. Division III - Consulting and Industrial/Organizational Psychology
Division III is a diverse and inclusive coalition of psychologists. I/O consulting embraces both a body of knowledge and methodologies for applying and extending the particular disciplines of psychology to problems involving human behavior in corporate, business, and organizational settings. An I/O psychologist is a professional who provides specialized and technical assistance to individuals or organizations on the psychological aspects of their work. Division IV - Psychologists in Public Service
Psychologists in Public Service, represent the professional interests of federal/state/county employed psychologists who serve vulnerable populations in prisons, state hospitals, developmental centers, parolees, incarcerated juveniles, etc. Division IV advocates for psychological expertise to be a regular part of patient care to vulnerable populations by ensuring psychologists have input into clinical decision making on treatment teams, providing direct treatment and that psychologists participate in decision making forums, such as organized medical staffs, legislative bodies and state policy decision making. Division V - Clinical Psychopharmacology
The purpose of the Division is to obtain and maintain prescriptive authority for properly trained psychologists in the State of California. Division V represents prescribing psychologists who have obtained recognized additional training in clinical psychopharmacology and other psychologists who support the goals of the Division. The Division's activities will include advocacy for lawful prescribing authority, encouraging discussion about pharmacotherapy and related therapies, consulting with colleges and universities and other training institutions about the development of medical psychology curricula, conducting or sponsoring continuing education programs, and fostering collegiality and collaborations among prescribing psychologists. Division VI - Media, Technology and Communication
Division VI educates members about, promotes, and implements information technologies to enhance their professional activities. Towards this aim, the Division provides opportunities and services for CPA members by (a) facilitating access to resources in information technology and applications to psychology; (b) disseminating information on issues relevant to the use of information technology in psychology; and (c) developing theoretical frameworks, guidelines, and standards for using information technology in media, academia, research, health and professional practice.

Division VII - Diversity and Social Justice
Division VII promotes psychology's social responsibility by the active engagement of psychologists as agents of social change. The Division aims to identify and address cultural and social justice issues as they concern the practice of psychology. Division VII partners with other organizations to accomplish this aim including other CPA divisions, culture-specific organizations, colleges, and universities. Division VII of CPA defines culture broadly. This definition is inclusive of, but not limited to, ethnic diversity, gender, sexual orientation, and social class. The division also attempts to address broader social justice concerns such as AIDS/HIV, immigration, and health disparities.

Division VIII - Neuropsychology
The Division of Neuropsychology was created to represent the professional practice and training needs of Neuropsychologists in California. The Division supports the profession’s highest standards by sharing neuropsychological knowledge through professional meetings, public presentations, the Internet, and other media. Additionally, the Division provides public education on issues pertaining to healthy behavior, prevention, assessment, and treatment of neurological injury or illnesses and advocates on behalf of the neuropsychological profession, our patients/clients, and our students via legislative advocacy and governance efforts.
