Advocacy and Government Affairs
The California Psychological Association advocates for adoption of sensible, workable laws that respect and advance the practice of psychology and patient well-being. We are committed to protecting the sanctity and confidentiality of the psychologist-patient relationship, and the availability of critically-needed mental health services in California. CPA is a constant presence before the California Legislature and the Governor's Administration.
Grassroots Tool Box - New!
The California Psychological Association is only as good as its members when it comes to advocating for psychologists and your clients. CPA's members are the face of our advocacy program, interacting with their legislators and providing information about how laws personally affect them and their clients. To help you be a better advocate for your profession, CPA staff have compiled a number of how-to guides events and meetings that you can do to develop a relationship with your legislators.
CPA and the Legislative Process
Every year the State Legislature introduces thousands of bills, some of which affect the practice of psychology. CPA members and staff review every bill to determine the potential impact both on psychologists and on consumers who utilize their services. The Government Affairs staff, working with the Local Advocacy Network and the Board of Directors, determine CPA's position on each bill.
Donate to the CPA-PAC!
In conjunction with CPA, the CPA-PAC allows psychologists to get involved with the legislative process and support legislators or candidates who understand the importance of the legislative process.
