Clinical Supervision: New Directions

Presented by Carol Falender, PhD and Edward Shafranske, PhD ABPP

A whole new era of clinical supervision begins with the recognition that training is required to supervise and with the emerging Guidelines for Clinical Supervision in Health Service Psychology.  The guidelines were developed by a task force appointed by the Board of Educational Affairs of the American Psychological Association.  The topical areas include Supervision Competence, Diversity, Supervisory Relationship, Professionalism, Assessment/Evaluation/Feedback, Professional Competence Problems, and Ethical, Legal and Regulatory Considerations.  The webinar will serve to introduce the new guidelines and describe their application for supervisors through use of vignettes.

Learning objectives:

  • Describe one impact of recognition of the need for training on clinical supervision and on client outcomes
  • Describe three best practices to conduct clinical supervision
  • Provide three reasons why feedback is a critical component of supervision and is a model for client care
